Black History Month: a conversation with Calvin Cooper

A conversation with Calvin Cooper

During February, our team is celebrating Black History month in conversation with our partners about programs and issues affecting the Black community.

This week, as we focus on entrepreneurship in the Black community, Ray Jones, executive-in-residence in Ohio State’s Keenan Center for Entrepreneurship, talks with Calvin Cooper, who, in addition to starting his own company and being a venture partner, has also authored surveys on the state of funding for minority-owned companies.

Currently, Calvin is founder and CEO of Rhove, a fintech company that turns renters into owners. Residents living at partner properties can own a stake in their apartment community, instantly with no barriers to entry. Previously, he was a director and venture partner at NCT Ventures.

Here, drawing on his experience in both building companies and as a venture capitalist, Calvin shares the four P's behind his method for building and funding a company: purpose, problem, people and process.
