T2012-125 Development of multimedia case studies that illustrate how teachers and school leaders address challenges with planning and teaching technology-rich lessons.

The Need

Technology is becoming increasingly important to almost every aspect of modern day careers. Therefore, schools are working to ensure every child is sufficiently prepared to operate in a technology dependent environment. However, many barriers exist when trying to implement technology rich lessons into classrooms. Teachers and school leaders first need to obtain technology which can be costly. Teachers also need to confidently understand how to teach a skill which they themselves may not fully comprehend without proper training. A technology to improve the training and development of teachers' knowledge on new and upcoming technology is necessary.

The Market

  • Education technology is becoming a global phenomenon, and as platforms scale internationally, the market is projected to grow at 17.0% per annum, to $252bn by 2020. (Market Watch, 2016)
  • The United States spends more than $3 billion per year on digital content for schools and public schools in the U.S. now provide a least one computer for every five students. (Education Week, 2016)
  • Key market drivers include the influx of mobile devices, especially smartphones, into learning management systems as well as global increase in students to 2.7 billion worldwide in 2035. (Market Watch, 2016)
  • According to MDR, a provider of marketing information and services for education, replacing textbooks with online resources was listed as a high- to medium-priority initiative by 78% of curriculum directors. Procuring apps was a high to medium priority for 77%. (Market Data Retrieval)
