T2025-040 A Platform for High-Throughput Biomarker Detection that is portable, fast, and requires minimal sample

The Need

The diagnostics market is under increasing pressure to deliver faster, more reliable, and less invasive solutions, driven by growing global health challenges. Current technologies face critical limitations, including large sample requirements, labor-intensive workflows, and reliance on expensive infrastructure. The need for affordable, efficient, and scalable systems capable of multiplex biomarker detection remains unmet, creating significant commercial opportunities.

.

The Technology

OSU researchers have developed an innovative diagnostic platform combining rapid, reliable biomarker detection with exceptional accessibility. Leveraging pH-sensitive and cleavable isobaric peptide probes, this system delivers precise readouts on portable mass spectrometers, enabling simultaneous detection of multiple biomarkers from minimal sample volumes (<60 µL) with rapid turn-around times (<1h). The compact 3D paper-based design of this breakthrough platform offers portability, scalability, and ease of use, proposing a transformative solution for clinical and resource-limited settings, with broad applications in global healthcare and diagnostics.
